Private Label Cigars for Resale in Your Shop
Put your shop’s name on its own cigar: a boxed long filler house brand for a higher-end shop’s humidor, or value bundles that turn over fast at a busy counter.
What Is a House Brand Cigar?
A house brand, or store brand, is your shop’s own private label cigar. It carries your name or brand, so it can only be bought from you. That gives customers one more reason to come back to your counter.
We’re a custom cigar manufacturer with factories in Estelí, Nicaragua. We roll house brands for cigar and tobacco shops and handle the rest, from bands, boxes, and bundles to shipping.
In most tobacco shops, cigars are one part of the offering, sold alongside other products. Customers come in, buy what they need, and leave, so a shop lives on turnover and margin.
Some shops are higher-end, and others focus on value. A house brand should suit the kind of shop you run, whether that means boxed long filler cigars or bundles. You can carry both.
Are cigars your main trade, with a room where customers sit down to smoke what they buy? Then our page for cigar lounges is the better fit.
A Boxed House Cigar for a Higher-End Shop
When your customers know their cigars, a house brand has to earn its place beside the big names in your humidor. That usually means long filler, hand rolled from whole leaves, at our Better (premium) or Best (ultra-premium) level, in a box that looks the part. Our page on long filler quality levels explains what separates them. At every level, we draw test each long filler cigar.
With a fully custom blend or a homage blend, the shop across town can’t sell that blend under its own name, even when it carries the same national brands you do.
Presentation does the rest. Our in-house designers handle your logo and packaging artwork, vetted partners make the custom cigar box and the band, and every piece of packaging comes down to three close options picked for your shop.
Before boxing, each cigar goes into a cellophane sleeve, so customers can lift it from your humidor without handling the wrapper.
Value Bundles for a Fast-Turnover Shop
For a busy, value-focused shop, bundles do the work. They skip the box, which lowers the cost of each cigar, and they give customers an everyday house cigar: the one they add to whatever else they came in for.
A bundle line can take either format:
- Long filler at our Good level. Whole-leaf cigars, made for bundles and entry-level lines.
- Short filler. Handmade cigars of 100% leaf tobacco, filled with premium and ultra-premium cuttings, sorted into mild, medium, and full.
Short filler is the more affordable of the two: a simpler smoke whose flavor shifts less as it burns. For many of your customers, an enjoyable cigar at a lower price is exactly the point. Short filler comes at two levels, ultra-premium (our Cuban sandwich) and premium, and our page on short filler levels explains the difference.
The number of cigars per bundle is your call, with 20 or 25 as the classic counts. Each cigar is sleeved in cellophane before it is bundled, so you can sell a whole bundle or open it and sell singles. A bundle can go out with no band at all, or with a band carrying your shop’s name or brand.
If you’d rather sell short filler in a box, choose a plain wooden one for an old-school look, with your logo burned into the wood or hot-stamped in foil, or a lower mid-tier box.
How Is Your Shop’s Blend Chosen?
First comes the format, long filler or short filler, decided before any blending begins. Then you pick a starting point:
- Fully custom. Built from scratch around the flavor and strength you want, for your shop alone.
- Tweaked factory blend. An approved blend of ours, adjusted with you.
- Factory blend. An approved blend, launched as it is. It can become exclusive to your shop at certain production levels, on terms we agree with you.
- Homage blend. A blend that takes its cue from cigars or a style you love: Cuban-style cigars made only from legal leaf, two favorites combined into one, or one favorite with a twist of your own. Every homage blend is exclusive to your shop.
Our factory blends come in long and short filler, and starting from one, with or without a tweak, usually takes less time than building a blend from scratch. Once we’ve had a first call, you can get access to our private client portal, with notes on each blend and a way to order samples.
Whatever the route, production waits until you’ve smoked the samples and signed off on the blend. We can send the samples to your shop, or you can come to Estelí and smoke them in The Lab with the people who blended them. No Cuban tobacco goes into any of our blends, wherever your shop is.
How Many Cigars Does a Shop Order First?
For a shop’s own house brand, a first order typically runs between 5,000 and 10,000 cigars, above all for a fully custom blend. That order can usually cover one or two sizes, in one or two blends.
Within that order, we like at least 2,000 cigars of each blend in each size. That gives our rollers time to find their groove on one size and blend. Each switch interrupts the flow of production, and more cigars fail our checks until the rollers settle in again.
Think of 2,000 as a guide, not a hard rule. We’re here to work with you, so tell us what your shop needs, and we’ll try to make it fit.
Our first call can start the conversation about how to divide your order, but the blend comes first: once your blend or blends are locked in, we work out the split together. Early on, we’ll also want a rough idea of how many cigars you expect to order, so we can be sure the project makes sense for our business too.
A smaller first order, from about 1,000 cigars in all, can still work the way our club and company projects do, either for a higher-end cigar or for value bundles that start from a factory blend.
The catch with a small run is cost. Setting up a short run takes as long as setting up a big one, and every change of blend and tolerances partway through a production day or week affects the factory’s schedule, so each cigar costs more. For a shop that depends on its margin, that difference matters, and we would rather you know it before you settle on an order size.
Building your house brand to last? Then we can be flexible with our minimums while you grow, as long as we both see this as a long-term partnership.
How Long Does a House Brand Take to Reach Your Shelf?
A house brand built from nothing generally takes 6 to 9 months to reach your shelf. If your logo and artwork are done, expect 4 to 8.
Part of that time is rest: we recommend giving every run of freshly rolled cigars a minimum of 90 days at the factory. That is why a reorder of the same blend in the same packaging runs about 4 to 6 months. A big order can also ship in stages, each batch leaving when its cigars are ready.
A reorder can usually be smaller than your first order, and we plan each run with you well before your stock gets low.
What We Handle for Your Shop
All of it, if you like. Our full service puts the blend, the cigars, the bands and boxes, the packing, and the shipping in one team’s hands, on a single timeline, while you run your shop.
Our team is in both of our Estelí factories every day: one makes long filler, the other short filler, and they sit about a kilometer apart. Head operations run from our office in Miami. Each cigar gets a final quality control inspection in our packing room before it goes into a box or bundle.
A reorder has to taste like the cigar your customers came back for. We smoke each new run beside the reference cigars we hold for your blend and adjust the recipe whenever a fresh crop arrives. Read how we go about keeping a blend consistent from run to run.
We ship at cost to anywhere cigars can be sent legally, with experience shipping to many countries. If you prefer, you can book your own freight. Any permits and taxes on the receiving side are for your shop to arrange.
You decide whether we ever mention your shop.
Since your shop sells more than cigars, branded accessories are a natural add-on: your logo can go on lighters, cutters, ashtrays, and hats through our custom cigar accessories service.
Are We the Right Cigar Maker for Your Shop?
We are if you know your customers and want a partner behind your house cigar, not just a supplier for one order.
We won’t win on price alone. Quality tobacco and tight quality control tolerances put a floor under what each cigar costs, and together with a team that manages every step for you, they are what make our cigars the best value. If your shop picks its cigar maker by the lowest quote, another supplier will suit you better, and we respect that. But if tobacco is a passion for you too, we’d love to build your house cigar with you, keep every run on schedule, and take the stress of production off your hands.
And if your house cigar ever grows into a brand sold beyond your own counter, our page on building a private label line covers the next step.
House Brand Cigar Questions
Are house brand cigars any good?
They’re as good as the tobacco and the work behind them. Ours come from the same factories, quality levels, and checks as the cigars we make for brands: each cigar is weighed several times as it is made and once more before packing. The difference is the name they’re sold under.
The best house brand cigars are the ones customers buy again at a price that feels fair.
Can a house brand improve my shop’s margin?
It can, because a house brand puts you in control. With a cigar of your own, you set the retail price, choose the quality level and the packaging, and decide where it sits on your shelf beside the brands you carry.
We can’t tell you what profit margin a cigar shop makes or which markup to use, because that depends on your rent, your customers, and your local market. We don’t publish prices either, since each project gets its own quote. The value in that quote comes from good tobacco and a team that keeps the blend, the packaging, and your delivery date on track.
Can my shop buy cigars directly from you?
Yes, as cigars made to order for your shop, not off the shelf. Every cigar we roll goes into a client’s project, so we don’t sell single boxes or keep a catalog of existing house lines. The closest thing is our factory blends, which you can sample and launch under your shop’s name. Buying in bulk works the same way: a bigger order is simply a bigger production run of your own cigars.
If you supply cigars to a group of shops, see our page for distributors and wholesalers.
Another factory makes my house brand. Can you take it over?
Yes. A house line moves to us the same way an established brand’s cigars do, and our established brands page covers moving an existing blend in full.
Does my shop need a license to sell cigars?
The licenses to receive and sell cigars are your shop’s responsibility, and the rules depend on whether you sell in store or online, and on your country, state, county, or city. Whatever the local age limit, our cigars are meant only for smokers 21 and older. Legal advice is outside what we do, so confirm the requirements with your local authorities or a lawyer well before your first order ships.
